The last time I've written in this blog I mentioned the case of Kevin Spacey and the sexual harrassment accusations made against him. My feelings and thoughts on the matter haven't changed and I am not going to dwell deeper on the subject as there is a ton of new drama and subjects I can cover.
The subject I am getting in right now is somewhat related to the previous one, but in a more generalized fashion. What is going on at the movie industry right now is voicing something that was already well known in the industry, sexual harrassment and crimes of the kind has been well known and documented over the years, but no one ever brought it up or voiced their accusations. After Kevin Spacey had his career completely obliterated by the scandals, a series of new (and surprising) names have been involved in the same kind of accusations and we have been shown over and over again that the movie Industry have been dancing to this tune for a long long time. Am I saying that nothing should be done as it's been like that for years? Of course not. It would certainly be more comfortable if we just let things as they were and go on with our lives.
One of the things I keep commenting and thinking about is why someone has to lead a perfect life to be recognized as a good actor/singer/artist? Why can't you admire someone's work and part it completely from the actor's private life? We can disagree and condemn certain actions from our favourite artists and still appreciate their work. I suppose it is the same thing that happens when someone is actually upset their favourite artist is a homosexual.
The fact is that the repeated sexual harrassment accusations in the movie industry have no easy solution. The court of law should be the judge to what accusations are real or not and we cannot let their private lives get in the way of their art.
